Yoshito Tozaki
Our beloved father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather passed away on October 04 at Northridge Hospital of kidney/liver complications at the age of 93. Yoshito was born on April 01 in Sacramento, California. It was necessary to call the mid-wife three times because it was April Fool's Day.
At 1 year old, his family moved back to Japan and re-settled near Kumamoto, Japan. In 1937, Yoshito came back to the USA and settled in Oceanside with family working as a farmhand. During WW II, he was sent to detention camps in Poston, AZ and Tule Lake, CA. After the war, Yoshito found work at Seabrook Farms in New Jersey. Later he moved back to southern California and lived with his older sister where he met Jitsuko (Jayne). They were married in 1951 and lived in Sun Valley for 62 years where they raised three sons, Ron, Jeff and Gary.
Yoshito worked as a gardener until he fully retired at the age of 85. He served as Treasurer of the Sun Valley Japanese-American Community Center for 50 years. In his middle years, Yoshito loved to fish at local beaches and take the family camping at the Mammoth Lakes area and in his later years he and Jitsuko enjoyed many weekend bus trips to Vegas.
Yoshito is survived by his wife, Jitsuko, sons Ron (Jeannette), Jeff (Susan), Gary (Grace), grandchildren, Ryan (Colette), Michael, Danny, Corinne, Eric, great-granddaughters Maddie & Chloe and half siblings Kyoko, Hiroshi & Hiroto of Japan. We will miss that wonderful smile.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Keiro Senior Health Care or your favorite charity in his honor.
Services will be held on Saturday October 19, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Hompa Hongwanji Temple, 815 East First Street, Los Angeles, 90012.
