Obituary

Long time Pasadena resident Yoshiko Hanzawa Nakahiro passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2017, at the age of 90. The daughter of Enayo and Unshichi Frank Hanzawa, Yo was raised in Norwalk, until relocation to the Rohwer, AK internment camp in 1942.  Upon leaving camp she enrolled first at the University of California, Berkeley, and later UCLA, where she completed her degree in bacteriology.  She married Toshio Nakahiro, and later left a career as a lab tech at Los Angeles County General Hospital to raise a family.  In her later years, Yo returned to the work force at the Little Tokyo Branch Library, and as a volunteer at the Japanese American National Museum, and the Pasadena Senior Center, among others.  She was a lifelong Dodgers fan, and enjoyed her studies in art.

Yo is preceded in passing by her husband Tosh, and survived by her two children, Steve and Janis and her only grandchild, Drew. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in her memory to the charity their choice.
