Celebration of Life services for Willie Toshio Mikuni, 88 years young, resident of Pasadena who passed away on August 30, 2016 will be held on Saturday, September 24, 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Altadena, 2775 Lincoln Ave. in Altadena.
He was born in Salinas, California to Kokichi and Sato Mikuni on September 11, 1927. The family moved to Colorado during the war to avoid internment, and later settled in Denver. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in pharmacy. He married Betty Yamato and they put their roots down in Pasadena, raising Darryl, Janis, and Karen. He owned Martin Drugs in Pasadena for 25 years. Willie enjoyed playing sports including baseball, basketball, and volleyball (into his 60s), was very involved in Boy Scout Troup 41, and serving at church. He loved having the kids over (and of course, the grandkids), and family parties. He and Betty recently celebrated 62 years of marriage!
He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Emiko Mikuni; son, Darryl (Pat Van Der Veer) Mikuni; daughters, Janis Nakamura and Karen (Ethan Etnyre) Mikuni; grandchildren, Christopher Mikuni, Jennifer (Andrew) Kuga, Reine Nakamura and Quin Etnyre; he is also survived by nieces, nephews and many other relatives. He is predeceased by his parents, Kokichi and Sato Mikuni, his siblings, Fred, Rose Fujimoto, and Mary, and son-in-law, Ron Nakamura.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Altadena.
