Funeral services for Tsuyoshi "Tee" Okura, (1916-2016) who passed away on March 30, 2016, will be held on Monday, April 18, 12:00 P.M. at Green Hills Memorial Park Pavilion, 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275, with Reverend Kunishige Ito of Tenrikyo Westside Church officiating.
Tee spent all of his life in Los Angeles with residences in Wilmington and Lomita. He was considered the greatest Japanese-American athlete of his generation by many and excelled in sports at Banning High School, the Jr. Olympics, with the Skippers and the Nisei All-Stars. He served in the U.S. Army while his family was relocated to Santa Anita, CA and Jerome, AK. He retired from the U.S. Post Office in 1976 after 25 years of service. He helped his wife with her teaching career and "retired" again in 1987. Then, he helped his son, Albert, with his chicken rotisserie chain, Juan Pollo, and "retired" yet again in 2013. He was honest, hardworking and generous. He was loved by his family and friends and will be missed by many.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Chiyoko Shiba Okura in 1999 and eldest son, Robert in 1972.
He is survived by his children, Albert, Amy and Susan, and their spouses; 2 sisters; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
The family invites you to wear casual attire on the day of service.
A public visitation will be held on Sunday, April 17, 6:00 P.M. at Fukui Mortuary "Chapel in the Garden", 707 E. Temple Street, CA 90012.
