Obituary

Tomoe Nii Yamashita, 90, passed away in Woodland, CA, on 20 April. She is survived by her daughters Lynn Aiello and Jane Yamashita; her sons, Dr. Paul Yamashita, Dr. James Yamashita, and Henry Yamashita; their wonderful spouses; as well as 11 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Her eldest son, Roy, passed away in 2001. Born in Hawaii on July 18, 1924, Tomoe was educated in Honolulu and Tokyo, where she later met her husband of 30 years--Henry Y. Yamashita. The couple settled in Los Angeles where they raised their family. The family moved to Plymouth Meeting, PA, and after the last of their children were in college, the couple moved to Marietta, OH, where Henry Y. passed away in 1984. Tomoe later moved back to California, first to Fresno and later to Davis. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Tomoe was a secretary who took great pride and joy in her work. She had an optimism, drive, and grace that made her a pillar of strength for her family, as well as a warmth and sense of humor that made her a joy to be around.
A private memorial service was held in Los Angeles.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, (https://my.nof.org/donate) or 1150 17th St NW, Washington, DC 20036.
