Tina Mitsui Nonga, 66, of San Juan Capistrano passed away on August 7, 2023, of complications from diabetes. She was born on August 22, 1956, in Tokyo, Japan, to Manuel and Misao Nonga. She grew up in Hawaii until her family moved to Carson in 1972 when Tina was 15.

Tina graduated from Carson High School in 1974. In 1978 she graduated from UC Irvine with a Bachelor of Arts in art history, followed by a Master of Arts in Asian studies, with a focus on Japanese literature, from Indiana University.

She had a long career as a technical writer at Computax, FIleNet, American Honda, CODA Automotive, SpaceX, Wells Fargo Dealer Services, and Mechanics Bank Auto Finance, from which she retired in 2021.

She was predeceased by her parents and survived by her life partner, Steven Ettinger; her brother, Mike Nonga; her sister-in-law, Sylvia Nonga; and other dear relatives in the United States and Japan.

Tina loved Japan, loyal friendships, get-togethers, and pets, particularly Niko. Above all, she will be remembered for her kindness, wit, and generous spirit. She is profoundly missed by her family and friends.
