Public memorial services for the late Tei Sugi, 98 year old, Santa Clara California-born, long time resident of Alhambra and more recently Keiro and Laguna Niguel, who passed away on April 9, will be held on Saturday, April 23, 11:00AM at Fukui Mortuary "Chapel in the Garden", 707 E. Temple St, Los Angeles, California.
Tei attended elementary and secondary schools in the Lincoln Heights area and graduated from Los Angeles Junior College in 1937.
During WWII, Tei, her son, and her mother were interned in Poston, Arizona from 1942 to 1945.
After the war, Tei worked for the L.A. Recreation & Parks Dept. and 27 years with the L.A. Unified School District, retiring in 1983.
Tei enjoyed playing golf and was a past president of the Southern California Nisei Women's Golf Association. She also enjoyed traveling, including annual Arizona trips for L.A. Dodgers spring training games and traveling to VFW/442 activities with long-time friend Sadao Kodama.
She is survived by son, Jim (Violet) Sugi; grandchildren, Denise (Chris) Beaufort and Wendy Herbert; great-grandchildren, Evan and Taryn Beaufort, Kayla and Casey Herbert; also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
