YAMADA, SUYENORI M.D. passed away peacefully on June 22, 2013 at the age of 83.
Beloved husband of Fumiye T. Yamada; father of Seiko Diane Yamada, M.D. (David A. Harter, M.D.) and Akira Mark Yamada; grandfather of Cameron A. and Keira I. Harter; he is survived by his brother Hidemi Yamada and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Sadame (Ideta) Yamada and father Keizo Yamada as well as his brothers Yoshiaki, Yoshito, Takayoshi, Terumi and Shoji.
Suyenori Yamada was born on October 11, 1929 in Kingsburg, CA, the youngest of seven brothers. For his undergraduate studies, he attended the University of California, Berkeley and received a B.S. degree in Public Health in 1952. He earned his M.D. degree from the California College of Medicine, now known as the UC Irvine College of Medicine in 1962. He went on to complete his internship and residency at Los Angeles County General Hospital.
Dr. Yamada then joined the USC Department of Internal Medicine where he became a clinical professor. He would spend half his time as an academic and clinical physician affiliated with USC's hepatology program. During that period, he worked alongside a team of outstanding physicians educating fellows from around the world in the study of liver diseases.
The other half of his time was dedicated to private practice as an internist at the Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. There, he provided primary care to innumerable patients until his retirement in 2002.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 27 at 2:00 PM at the Forest Lawn Glendale "Church of the Recessional" located at 1712 S. Glendale Avenue, Glendale, CA.
