Sumio Ido passed away peacefully at home on February 26 at the age of 97.

He grew up on Terminal Island, California, until his family was evacuated and interned at Manzanar. After their release, he served in the US Army for over 20 years and was stationed in Korea, as well as Fort Ord where he attended the Defense Language Institute.  He married Mitsuko Ota, who was a native of Osaka, Japan, in 1954.  They lived in Gardena off and on and settled there after his retirement.

Sumio was preceded in death by his wife and is survived by his daughter Patty (Jon) Smith, granddaughter Emma, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held later this year.
