Sayuri Oba was born on April 17, 1963, in Fukuoka, Japan. Known fondly from her friends and family as Sandi, she was a long-time resident of North Hollywood, CA, and passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, at Providence St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, CA on June 30, 2021 at the young age of 58.
She grew up in Salt Lake City, UT, graduating from Judge Memorial Catholic High School, then went on to study at The University of Utah. Soon after moving to Los Angeles, she became heavily involved in the music industry in the 1980's, as a music promotor along the Sunset Strip rock scene. She became a coordinator at Complex Recording Studios and then a coordinating manager at JVC Music Entertainment in Los Angeles. As well as working in music, Sayuri also worked in the television industry as a production coordinator for Fox 21 Studios.
In 2004, Sayuri began her career as a lactation consultant at Dignity Health – Glendale Memorial Hospital where she was able to share her compassion and her love of helping people, especially new mothers who needed her support, guidance and expertise.
Everyone that knew Sayuri would agree that she was definitely one of a kind. She was a very lovely woman with a huge heart of gold. She made each person she touched a better person for knowing her.
Her passions in life were music, cooking, entertaining friends and arranging family gatherings. She loved art, painted, and drew manga in her spare time. She was also a foodie and loved to travel. Still, her strong love for music never faded and she continued to coordinate and manage musicians throughout her life.
Sayuri is survived by her loving family; her husband, Russell McCabe; daughter Mayumi McCabe; son-in-law, Timothy Wayne Holland II; and grandson, Timothy Wayne Holland III. In Japan, she is survived by her father, Yosuke Mizuno; stepmother, Misao Mizuno; and her two brothers, Koichi and Yoshihiro Mizuno. In Utah, she is survived by her brother, Keiji Yasuo. In Illinois, she is survived by her sister, Yoshiko Nii. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews.
