Obituary

Sally Sadako Hashimoto , who was known as "Kachan" to her immediate family, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2019.
Sally was the 2nd of four children of Gashiro Mayeda and Satomi Miyashita, who had emigrated from Hiroshima, Japan in 1907.  When Sally was five years old the family returned to Japan where she was educated in an international school.
Sally was married to John Kazuma Yasui in Japan and returned to California to raise her family.  John Yasui predeceased Sally.
During WWII Sally was interned under executive order -- first to Santa Anita, California and then to Rohwer, Arkansas.  After spending several months in internment camp, she relocated to Chicago, IL and remained until 1947 to return to Los Angeles, California.
She is remembered as a loving, generous mother, grandmother and great grandmother who shared her lifelong passion for all the arts, landscaping, sewing, designing and gardening.  She was married to William Teruo Hashimoto, who predeceased her.  William was a USAID State Department supervisor of heavy equipment, and thus began her travels around the world.  In her travels she won further government accolades for her landscape designs in each of the countries she resided in.
She is survived by her daughters, Candice (Shig) Kuwahara, Bettie Yasui.  Her son, Robert Kazuaki predeceased her, and grandchildren, Blake Kuwahara, Tod (Darleen) Kuwahara, Diana (Robert) Otto and Joel (Candace) Kuwahara, great grandchildren, Lindsey Kuwahara, Drew Kuwahara, Jake Otto, Keira Otto, Christopher Wong and Daniel Wong.
A private funeral service was held on 11/30/19 at Rose Hills with Rev. Mark Nakagawa of The United Methodist Church presiding.
