Ruby Hideko Kashiwagi , 87 year-old Kibei-Nisei Torrance resident passed away on March 31, 2017.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Pierre Kruh) Kashiwagi and son, Eugene; granddaughter, Naomi Kruh; brother Yoshihiro (Junko) Urushibata; sister in-law Frances Yamaura; nieces, Marsha (Gerry) Tashiro, Jolie Urushibata and Cathie (Brad McDonald) Urushibata; nephews, Craig Yamaura and Robert (Sarah) Yamaura; and also many other loved relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37-years, Masaji; her parents Torakichi and Moyo Shimazu Urushibata; stepmother Tsuneko Urushibata; brothers Hirokazu "Jack" and Keiji Urushibata.
Born in Torrance, she moved to Shimizu City, then Kobe, Japan in 1940 when her mother died. She returned to the U.S. in 1951. Ruby and Mas met and lived in Los Angeles, then moved to Inglewood, California to raise their family.
Being fluent in Japanese and English, she was executive secretary to the various presidents of the Japan-based Pentel of America for 27 years. She was a sensei at Compton Gakuen Japanese School. We were proud of our mother's membership in Kado Kyoju-Kai (Ikebana Teachers Guild) and attainment as a Master Sensei in the Misho-Ryu School of Ikebana flower arrangement, her life-long hobby and passion.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 2:00pm at Fukui Mortuary "Chapel in the Garden", 707 E. Temple St., Los Angeles. Reception immediately following.
