Obituary

Rand Harold Kozaki, age 72, passed away peacefully at his home in San Bernardino, CA, on February 20, 2025, after a long battle with diabetes.

Born in Los Angeles, CA, to Harold and Kimiko Kozaki, Rand was raised alongside his older sister, Karen (Yoshioka). The family lived in Los Angeles, where Rand graduated from Franklin High School in 1970. He married his childhood sweetheart, Jane Salzwedel, on July 3, 1970, and together they raised three sons: Brian (Katrina), Mark (Lillian), and Greg (Rebecca). His grandchildren include Kimi, Kioko, Andrew, and Sophia. Rand is also survived by his sister, Karen Yoshioka, her husband Ben, and their daughters Karie and Tracy, all of whom reside in Colorado.

Rand began his career at Giumarra Brothers Wholesale Produce in 1970, starting in an entry-level position loading trucks with produce. His dedication and strong work ethic led him to a successful career in sales, a role he held for various Los Angeles-based produce companies until his retirement in 2005 after 30 years of service.

Known for his strong personality, Rand was meticulous in everything he did, always striving to "do it right the first time." He instilled this value in his sons and had a passion for using the best tools and products available.

Rand shared his love for deep-sea fishing and automobiles with his sons. Chartering private fishing trips and participating in local car shows with his showstopper1971 Ford Mustang Mach I were his favorite ways to spend time with family and friends. His home was a gathering place, often filled with friends and family, and his generosity toward young people was legendary. Many of his sons' friends would comment that dinner at the Kozaki's was like a Thanksgiving holiday, often serving what felt like half the neighborhood. His kindness and generosity toward young people will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the Kozaki family has made donations in Rand's honor to the following organizations, and we kindly encourage family and friends to consider donating as well:

*Japanese American Heritage Museum
*American Diabetes Association
*Petersen Automotive Museum
