Osamu "Sam" Fujita
October 14, 1945 - February 26, 2019
Osamu "Sam" Fujita went to be with the Lord on February 26, 2019 at the age of 73. His loving family surrounded his bedside as he passed peacefully at St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, California.
Sam was born in Manchuria, China in October 14, 1945, to Noboru and Kazuko Fujita a month after the end of World War II. He spent his childhood in Kanazawa-shi, Japan, and lived in Osaka and Yokohama for a short period. He was accepted into the undergraduate agriculture program at the prestigious Meiji University in Tokyo and where he enjoyed success in the All Male Ōen-Dan (cheer team).
He and his parents immigrated to the United States in 1967 where he and his father began a family business providing professional gardening services to residents of Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, and Westminster, California. He married his first wife of 15 years Akiko Fujii in 1972 and lived in Huntington Beach. Together they had daughter Jennifer in 1973. Their second daughter Laura was born three years later in 1976. Sam later married Sunhwa "Miwa" Jung in 1998 and lived the rest of his days in Garden Grove.
Sam enjoyed singing "Japanese Enka" and had a youthful fashion style. Sam loved his daughters and his two young grandchildren. His loving wife Miwa was devoted to Sam especially during his last few months battling cancer and never left his side. He was so loved by his family that many teased him saying how lucky he was.
Sam accepted the Lord Jesus as his Savior during his last months. He had slowly been turning his heart towards Jesus after both of his daughters battled cancer in 2012 and 2014. Some say he became a "praying man," earnestly praying to Jesus for his daughters' healing, while others might say he witnessed the joy and peace in his family's life despite illness and trials because of their faith in Jesus Christ. One hour before he was taken to Heaven, he emphatically told the ICU nurse "I am a Christian and Jesus gave my daughters to me." His family will miss him, but is comforted in knowing they will see him again in Heaven.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents Noboru and Kazuko Fujita. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years Sunhwa "Miwa" Fujita, first wife Akiko Fujita, daughters Laura Fujita and Jennifer (Darren) Sentani, granddaughter Jordan and grandson Micah, and other beloved family and friends in the U.S. and Japan.
A cremation ceremony will be held only for family on Friday, March 8, 2019.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Orange County Christian Church, 4872 Bishop St., Cypress, CA 90630.
The Family has designated, in lieu of flowers, that any monetary gifts will be given to assist with funeral costs.
