Born in 1928, Rev. Dr. Mokusen Miyuki, an 18th generation Pure Land Jodo Shinshu Buddhist priest, received his B.A. in Indian Philosophy and Sanskrit Philology at the prestigious University of Tokyo, Japan. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1954 where he continued his studies at UCLA (M.A., Philosophy) and Claremont Graduate School (Ph.D., Asian Studies) while practicing as a Buddhist priest at Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple in L.A. He further continued his studies in Zürich, Switzerland at the C.G. Jung Institute, where he received his Analyst Diploma in 1967.

A truly unique individual, Dr. Miyuki was a Scholar-Analyst and Buddhist practitioner with not only theoretical, but also experiential knowledge of Western psychology, primarily through the Analytical Psychology of C.G. Jung.

Throughout his life, he has touched the lives of many as a Buddhist priest; professor at California State University, Northridge; Jungian Psychoanalyst, and; visiting professor and guest lecturer at numerous universities, institutes and organizations. He has also conducted countless seminars, lectures, and workshops in the U.S., Japan, and Switzerland and authored and co-authored several books, including Kiki no Sekai to Jungu Shinrigaku ( A Century in Crisis and Jungian Psychology ), 2015; Buddhism and Jungian Psychology , 1985, with co-author J. Marvin Spiegelman; Kreisen des Lichtes: Die Erfahrung der Goldenen Blüte ( The Secret of the Golden Flower ), 1972, which has been translated into English and Portuguese, and; Jungu-Shinrigaku: Higashi to Nishi no Deai ( C.G.Jung's Psychology, Meeting of East and West ), 1984 . In addition, he penned a multitude of articles for books and journals in Japanese, German and English and delivered innumerable papers throughout the U.S., Asia and Europe and was a member of several organizations.

Dr. Miyuki passed away quietly at his home on Thursday, April 7. He is survived by his wife, Toshie, daughters Margaret Noriko (Matthew Peter) and Agnes Tomoko (Eric McShane), and his grandchildren, Ryan Satoshi and Tyler Takashi.

Funeral Services will be held at the Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple, 505 E. 3 ^rd St., L.A., CA 90013, April 17, 2016, at 5pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple.
