Rev. Miyeko Kawata Uriu,
aka "Rev. Micki" age 92.
Beloved mother and grandmother Rev. Miyeko Kawata Uriu passed from this life to the glory of heaven on Thursday, June 16, 2016. "Rev. Micki" was the first Japanese-American woman to be ordained in the United Methodist Church. She was greatly loved by her family, parishioners and all who knew her for her sweet spirit, humor, compassion, spunk and courage.
She is predeceased by her son, Ronald Mikio Uriu, and brother, Dr. Nobuyuki (Chizuko) Kawata. She is survived by her children, Karen (Mitsuhiro) Nakamura, Mark (Beverly O'Mara) Uriu, Candice (Steven) Yokomizo, Marcia Uriu and Kevin (Goril Lynghaug) Uriu; 13 grandchildren; brothers, Rev. Dr. Teruo (Kiku) Kawata and Dr. Sakae (Nancy) Kawata; also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 2nd, 10:00 am at Rolling Hills United Methodist Church, 26438 Crenshaw Blvd., Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274 with Rev. Amy Wake of First United Methodist Church of Honolulu, HI officiating.
