Obituary

Beloved mother, aunt and grandmother, Mitsue Aizumi Tanaka, 94, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2015. Mitsue, born and raised in San Diego, was most recently of La Puente, California. Mitsue's father, Kyuji Aizumi was a partner in San Diego's Ocean Industries Company, an early California fishing cannery, and a founding member of Ocean View Church of Christ. Mitsue married Bert Tanaka in 1941. Bert served with distinction in the 442nd, 100th battalion in World War II while Mitsue spent time in a California internment camp. The family temporarily resettled in Massachusetts before returning to California in 1949. She was an active member of the Ocean View Church of Christ, and the San Diego Japanese American community all her life. She will be remembered for her calm, pleasant, open minded attitude to all people and ideas. She was a person who made friends wherever she went.
She is survived by her children, Bert Tanaka Jr., Karen R. Tanaka, and Ron K Tanaka, 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Private memorial service for Mitsue Aizumi Tanaka was held August 25th at Fukui Mortuary, Los Angeles. The family asks in lieu of flowers that a donation in Mitsue's name be made to Montebello Plymouth Congregational Church, Montebello CA, or Citrus Valley Hospice, West Covina, CA.
