Mikako Fukuuchi Gary, 82, a retired Japanese language teacher, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2014. Mikako grew up in Yonago, Japan, studied pharmacy in Los Angeles, California, and met the man who would become her husband onboard a ship on her return trip to Japan. They were married in Tokyo and shortly thereafter moved to Hawaii, where they settled and raised a family on the North Shore of Oahu. Mikako loved to write short stories and poetry.
Mikako is predeceased by her husband, Thomas Gary, and survived by daughter Gwen Gary (Andrew Ramsay), sons Gordon Tokumatsu Gary – an Emmy award-winning reporter for NBC4 News, and Charles Gary, as well as other relatives.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 11 a.m. at Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, 815 E. First St., Los Angeles, CA.
