October 5, 1923 – June 24, 2017

Michito Frank Fukuzawa, 93, of Gardena, CA, passed away after a brief illness on June 24, 2017. Beloved husband of 65 years to Namiye, father of Sheryl (Clayton (pre deceased)) Iijima and Leigh (Katie) Fukuzawa, grandfather of Daryl Iijima, Lauren (Derek) Wong, and Tricia Fukuzawa, he leaves behind sisters Yoshiko Asakura (predeceased), Barbara, Florence (Leo) Nakamura, Martha Tanji, and Frances Kozaki, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Frank was born in Santa Barbara, CA to Tsumoru and Midori Fukuzawa.  An outgoing individual, he was active in student government, and participated in high school basketball, baseball, and track/field (pole vaulting).  His love for sports continued throughout his life.

Following his family's internment to Gila River, AZ, during WW II, Frank served in the U.S. Army, part of the 442 ^nd RCT  (Co. F), in Italy and So. France. After his honorable discharge, he graduated from U.C. Santa Barbara and was employed with LA Unified School District for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He was an active member of the Epsilon Pi Tau fraternity.

Frank was also very active at Gardena Valley Baptist Church and their choir, the 442 ^nd Veterans Association, the Go For Broke Education Foundation (now the Go for Broke National Education Center) and the development of the Go for Broke Monument in Little Tokyo.

Frank enjoyed traveling with his family, was a devoted husband and father, and took pleasure in each of his grandchildren's activities. Frank will be remembered for his outgoing, generous personality, his welcoming and warm spirit, his loving and faithful heart, walking the walk of faith in His Lord.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 10:00AM at Gardena Valley Baptist Church, 1630 W. 158 ^th St., Gardena.
