Funeral services for the late Matsuo Shimomaye, 97year old, Kibei Nisei, UT born and resident of North Hills, who passed away on July 2, 2021 will be held on Saturday, July 24, 9:30AM at Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, 815 E. 1 ^st St, Los Angeles, California.

He was raised and educated in Hiroshima, Japan.  He attended a University in Tokyo Japan studying Marine Biology.

He was an amazing survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bomb. After the war, he settled in West Los Angeles. He married and was a gardener.  Later he and his wife started a ground cover nursery business in the San Fernando Valley.  He continued the business for 45 years, retiring at 85 years old.He is survived by daughters, Susan Youko (Wesley Mizutani) Shimomaye and Kathy Taeko Yamaguchi of Missouri; grandchildren, Brandon Toshio and Kristen Hiromi Mizutani, Kelli Emiko Yamaguchi and Kyle Kiyoshi Yamaguchi of Missouri. Also he is survived by many nieces and nephews in California and Japan.
