Masato "Mas" Hayashi

Masato "Mas" Hayashi, 81, a resident of Irvine, passed away peacefully at the Hoag Hospital Irvine on Sept. 25. Private services were held on Oct. 17.

He taught math at Irvine Valley College for 42 years. He enjoyed going to Las Vegas and Disneyland, woodworking and cheering on UCLA. Mas is remembered for his generosity, kindness, sense of humor and love for family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Gayle Aiko; sons, Roy Masato (Olivia Hayashi) Hayashi and Eric Hideo (Gwen Muranaka) Hayashi; daughter, Melanie Tomiko (Benjamin Smith) Hayashi-Smith; grandchildren, Brent Michael, Alyssa Nicole and Jenna Grace Smith and Spencer Shin and Sadie Aiko Hayashi; brother Hideo (Karen) Hayashi of Oregon; sister Wakaye Hara of San Diego; brother, Minoru (Peggy) Hayashi of Alaska; brother-in-law Leroy (Joyce) Kawai; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
