Masami Okuyama passed peacefully on December 3rd, 2011 after a two year battle with cancer. Born on November 27, 1946 in Hokkaido, Masami moved to Los Angeles in 1970 and became a long time resident of North Hollywood, CA. Masami married the late Ryuko (Ito) Okuyama in 1978 and is survived by his children, Robert and Dorothy, three brothers in Japan, Terunobu, Teruaki and Mitsuo, along with many other relatives. Active in the Los Angeles Japanese community, Masami was a member of the Nanka Dosanko-kai, enthusiast and regular host of weekend mah-jong gatherings, and teacher at the Sun Valley Karate Dojo.
funeral service will be held on Sun. Dec. 18, 3:00 P.M. at Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple, 505 E. 3rd St., Los Angeles, CA.
