Masako Okamura
Masako Okamura, 89, born on January 1, 1934, in Norwalk, Calif. and a long-time resident of Montebello, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on July 25, 2023. A Sansei, her family moved around during her childhood, and evacuated from Arlington, Calif. to be incarcerated at Colorado River (Poston 1) War Relocation Center. After the war, her family relocated to Saratoga, Calif. for a few years, then to Boyle Heights, and finally East Los Angeles.
She was predeceased by her parents, Yaoji and Katsuko Watanabe; sister, Yoko Babaoka; and is survived by her husband, Paul; children, Michael, Robert (Marie), Steven (Theresa); sister, Sadako Fukuzawa; brother-in-law, Toshikazu Okamura; sister-in-law, Catherine Ibaraki; grandchildren, Christian Okamura, Ryan Okamura, Nelson Saravia, Joshua Rose, Michael Rose, Dylan Rose; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Montebello Plymouth Congregational Church, 144 S. Greenwood Ave., Montebello, CA 90640. Casual attire requested.
