Obituary

"For the perishable body must put on the imperishable, and the mortal body must put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written, "Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory, O death, where is your sting!" 1 Cor 15:54-55

Masahito Okada was born April 29, 1932 in Salinas California to Kanichi and Haruko Okada, hard working tenant farmers. The tragedies of WWII caused his family to flee Salinas California to Keenesburg, Colorado where they rebuilt their lives despite tremendous loss. He farmed with his father and brothers all the way through two undergraduate degrees, served in the Korean War, and met and married his wife, Nannette Miyoko Fujimoto of San Francisco. After Colorado University he received his Masters of Divinity at Denver Theological Seminary. Through all the schooling, they had four children; Paul, Steven, Mark, and Leanne and returned to his father's farm between semesters. Upon completing his PhD, they moved to Gardena, California, where they had their last child, Jill. Soon after Dr. Mas was a Chief Project Analyst at the South West Regional Laboratory and relocated to Huntington Beach. After the death of their son Steven in 1977, he retired and began work for Wintersburg Presbyterian Church where he served faithfully for twenty years.

Dr. Mas enjoyed fishing with his wife and garage saling, buying back all his household goods that were sold ten cents on the dollar during the relocation of WWII. All who met him found a kind, wise, and loving soul who always had time for the least of these. He made the loving sacrifice to endure dialysis for the sake of his family. On March 7, 2020, our much loved Dr. Mas Okada went home to see Jesus. His broken body was made whole and strong from the inside out so that he can now enjoy the height, depth, and breadth of the full love of God.

Mas was surrounded by family, tucked in with worship and prayers on Friday night without any dialysis tubes for the first time in over four and a half years. He passed away the following morning at 10am. His wife Nan, who had been serving him day and night, was supported by family and friends through the entire recovery season.

Some of Dr. Mas's last words were, "We did it. We did it together." He cried tears of joy and he said, "I'm so happy. All my kids made it. Everyone made it to Jesus. That's the most important thing." "I love everyone here.  Don't worry."

Dr. Mas was overflowing with joy and gratitude to his very last day. Thank you to everyone for your years of support for our Okada clan. Our daddy was loved by all and we are humbled by God's  beautiful plan.

"I have no greater joy than to know that my children are walking in the truth." 3 John 1:4
