Lum
June 29, 1939 – March 23, 2026
Marlene Mitsuko Lum, 86, of Los Angeles, passed away peacefully at home on March 23, 2026. She was born in Puhi, Kauai, and was a 60-year resident of Los Angeles.
Predeceased by her husband, Herbert K. Lum; her son, Gary Michael Lum; her brothers Alvin and Melvin, and her sisters, Elaine and Eileen.
She is survived by her brother Leslie (Margo) Hashimoto; her granddaughter, Iolani A. Livesey-Lum; her grandson, Gavin Livesey-Park; her nieces, Terry M. Hashimoto and Lynn K. (Brian Roberts) Hashimoto; her nephew, Stuart M. (Gabriela) Hashimoto; and many extended family members and friends.
Marlene achieved a successful 20 year career working as the Executive Assistant for the California Board of Equalization. During her tenure she served under elected officials, including current U.S. House Representative Brad Sherman and former State Controller John Chiang.
Marlene was an active participant in labor advocacy serving as a Job Steward with the Service Employees International Union (Local 1000). She additionally served as the Executive Vice President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance.
In her free time, she could be found tending to her garden or making travel arrangements to visit friends and family in Hawaii and Las Vegas.
A celebration of life will be held at Fukui Mortuary “Chapel in the Garden,” officiated by Reverend Cliff Ishigaki.
