Obituary

Marian Michi Kadota was born in Los Angeles, California on August 4, 1931 to Toshiko (Shimamoto) and Hideo Shiota of Hilo, Hawaii.  Marian peacefully passed away at her home with her husband Frank at her side and surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Marian was the eldest of three children growing up in the suburb of Boyle Heights in East L.A. where the family owned and operated a laundry cleaner.

At the age of nine, Marian's secure and comfortable life was shattered with the start of World War II and subsequent forced relocation of Japanese-American citizenry. The family was initially interned at Santa Anita, and transferred to Heart Mountain, Wyoming.

Marian and her family were eventually released and relocated to Chicago, Illinois like so many other Japanese-American families of their era. Now a teenager, Marian was enrolled at Senn High School where she enjoyed a fulfilling social calendar and was a proud club member of the Silhouettes. It was at this time that Theodore(Ted) Ikeda and Kazuko(Kaz) Kita set up a double date with Frank and Marian.

On June 28, 1952 Frank and Marian married where Marian flourished into the role of a loving wife and doting mother of four rambunctious baby boomers. For this young family, Marian was everything to everyone lucky enough to be either her husband or children. In no particular order of importance, Marian performed the duties of: spiritual leader, personal development manager, chief activities scheduler, child psychologist, nurse, nanny, homework quality assurance/enforcement, cook, chauffeur, primary supply chain provider, Cub Scout Den Mother, referee, disciplinarian, holiday, birthday and special event planner. Moreover, Marian delivered all of these crucial support functions with a fun-loving enthusiasm and creative flair.

As her children gained in age and independence, Marian went on to apply her talent and social/administrative skills to a variety of jobs and positions. She was a graphic artist, insurance agency office coordinator, voter registration administrator and major health care coverage operative. At this time, Marian devoted her time and attention to church fellowship activities, her garden, prize winning orchid collection, weekly Friday card games, and worldwide travel.

Ultimately, Marian evolved into the role of Grandma Extraordinaire. Words are inadequate to describe Marian as a Grandmother, but if one could imagine a combination of Santa Claus, Queen Elizabeth, Princess Diana, the Easter Bunny and Bugs Bunny into a single character, that might be Marian.

Marian is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 70 years, Frank. Brothers: Norman (Yone) Shiota, Art (Kenji) Shiota. Sons: Danny (Gale), Dave (Holly), Steve and daughter Nancy Wong.

Granddaughters: Keli (Derek) Brown, Jillian (Taylor) Tomlinson, Allyse (Steve) Sepulveda, Alexa Kadota, Kristen and Kaitlin Wong. Great Grandchildren: Brady Brown, Gia and Kira Sepulveda. Marian leaves behind many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
