Louise Reiko Kamimura, resident of Gardena, California, passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2016 at the age of 84. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Masaji Kamimura, she is lovingly survived by her son Keith (Noreen) Kamimura; daughter Kerry (Kenneth) Koyasako; grandchildren Stacy Kamimura, Kyle and Christopher Koyasako; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives here and in Hawaii.
Born in Pahoa, Hawaii to Shigeru and Shizue Kuwahara, she was the seventh and last surviving sibling of nine children. Reiko, as she was known to family, was raised in Pahoa and attended Pahoa High School and the University of Hawaii before she and Masaji, who she met at a high school dance in 1946, moved to Southern California in 1954 where their two children were born.
Reiko was a committed mother who was a cub scout den mother, girl scout assistant troop leader, PTA president, and member of the Dana group at Gardena Buddhist Church. When her children were in high school, she started working as an insurance biller at a dentist office and later, in the office of the PE department at El Camino College. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, reading, bowling, crafting and doing crossword puzzles. She and Masaji loved ballroom dancing and took lessons for nearly thirty years and she was a doting grandmother who took her grandchildren to swimming lessons and other activities when they visited with her. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
A private memorial service, officiated by Reverend John Iwohara of Gardena Buddhist Church, was held on March 19, 2016 at Green Hills Memorial Park.
