Funeral services for the late Mr. Koya Iwamoto, a 94 year-old Los Angeles, California-born Kibei Nisei resident of Arcadia who passed away on October 31 will be held on Friday, November 12, 7:00 PM at Zenshuji Soto Mission, 123 S. Hewitt St., Los Angeles, officiated by Bishop Rumme Daigaku.
Mr. Iwamoto was born on April 28, 1916 and spent his childhood in Wakayama Prefecture in Japan. Received an engineering degree from UC Berkeley. Interned at Heart Mountain Relocation Camp and Tule Lake Detention Center where he taught math and science. Married wife, Alice, in Chicago and returned to Los Angeles in 1955. He played contract bridge and achieved the level of Life Bronze Master. Retired after 23 years from Bechtel Corp. in 1978.
Predeceased by his son, WIlliam Koki Iwamoto, and survived by his wife, Alice; daughters, Julie (Jim Kodani) Iwamoto, Lisa (Rick) Shigemasa; grandchildren, Filip and Sayuri Stabrowski of NY, Matthew and Keith Shigemasa of CA. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and other family members.
