Obituary

Kiyono Shigetomi, former resident of Gardena, born in Hiroshima Japan on April 15, 1907, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2017, at the age of 110.
Kiyono came to the United States at the young age of 17, married Morito Sakoda and had 3 sons: Hideo, Yukio and Teruo.  Unfortunately, at the age of 30, Kiyono found herself a widow, raising 3 young boys.  Prior to World War II, they resided in San Francisco and she worked as a seamstress. During the war, they were intern at Topaz, UT, where she met her second husband, Asaji Shigetomi and became the stepmom to Yayoi, Akira, Sachiye and Setsuko.  After the war, Asaji and Kiyono returned to the Bay area and they had a son named Harry.
Kiyono enjoyed spending time with family, she is survived by her beloved son, Teruo Sakoda; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, she is also survived by nieces and nephews and many other relatives here and in Japan.
Memorial services for the late Kiyono Shigetomi will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Gardena Buddhist Church, 1517 W. 166 th Street, Gardena, CA  90247.
