Kimiko Kozaki Obituary
On January 20, 2022, Kimiko Kozaki, daughter of the late Katsuki & Tsuya Nakagawa, died peacefully at the age of 96. She is predeceased by her husband, Harold S. Kozaki and sisters Yooko Yoneda and Fujiko Nakagawa.
Kimiko was born in Washington state and spent most of her life in California except during the time her family was interned at Heart Mountain Internment Camp, Wyoming, during WWII. She graduated from Heart Mountain High School in 1943.
In 1948 she married Harold S. Kozaki at the Buddhist Church of San Jose and they ended up settling and having their family in Los Angeles. In the late 50's she went to cosmetology school and eventually opened her own beauty salon around 1970. She worked as a beautician well into her 80's.
Kimiko will be remembered for her tenacity, independent spirit, unending energy and selflessness. She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Ben) Yoshioka; son, Rand (Janie) Kozaki; granddaughters, Karie (Angela) and Tracy Yoshioka; grandsons, Brian (Katrina), Greg (Rebecca) and Mark (Lillian) Kozaki. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
The family burial service will be held at the Rose Hill Memorial Park in Whittier, CA on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Gyokei Yokoyama of Sozenji Buddhist Temple officiating.
