KIMIKO KAWANO, a resident of Long Beach and Seal Beach passed away due to natural causes on February 4, 2014.
Born in Los Angeles to Kishiro and Muku Sakamoto, the family lived on a family farm in the San Antonio Township of Montebello in Los Angeles County. She recalled her father being a leader in the Kumamoto Kenjinkai and accompanying him during regular visits with Nisei farming families across Los Angeles and Orange Counties during the 1930's.
She is survived by three daughters, Michi Tanimura, Arlene (Kenneth) Hayashida, and Darlene (Henry) Mano; six grandchildren, including Mark (Karen) Tanimura, Wesley Tanimura, Susan (Rudolf Mueller) Tanimura, Kenneth (Linda) Hayashida Jr., Randy Mano, and John Mano; three sisters, Millie Okai, Betty (Robert) Masuda of Hawaii and Akiko Mitsui; one sister-in-law, Chiyoko Sakamoto; also survived by many nephews, nieces and other relatives in California, Hawaii, and across the United States.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, February 22, at Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple (505 East 3rd Street, Los Angeles). Her wishes were to be cremated and buried next to her husband Yoshinori Kawano at Evergreen Cemetery.
