Obituary

A caring father and a devoted husband, the last surviving sibling of four Nisei brothers born to Tsuruzo and Shizuko Kochi on Aug.4, 1923 in Los Angeles. Passed away on Nov 13, 2013 in LA. His family was interned at Gila River Relocation Camp during the war.

Studied mathematics and engineering, graduated UCLA with BS, USC with MS. Dedicated his career to navigational guidance systems for space at North American Aviation Autonetics Div, later Rockwell Intl (Boeing) working on guidance systems for the X-15 rocket plane, Apollo Command Module, Saturn V rocket, and Space Shuttle orbiter. As senior technical specialist worked to develop GPS during the cold war era. In 1964 completed his book, Mid-Course Navigation Guidance for orbital space travel.

Widowed in 2001 after the death of spouse, Sally Sakae (married 1951), he is survived by three sons: Georg, Don, and Bill; three grandchildren: Kione, Myles and Ema; and daughter-in-laws: Michiko Akao and Lori Thorn. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Los Angeles on Nov. 20, 2013.
