Obituary

Katsuya Nakatani, 97, a devoted family man passed away peacefully March 13, 2026. A Korean War Army veteran, a mechanic, and avid deep-sea fisherman, dedicated his later years to preserving the legacy of his great-uncle, Shinshichi Nakatani, who built the Japanese Tea Garden’s Drum Bridge for the 1894 SF World’s Fair.

Predeceased by wife, Fujiko; he is survived by children Natalie (David), Joanne (Dana) Swart, Glenn; and grandchildren Nathan and Hailey Swart.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Fukui Mortuary “Chapel in the Garden”, 707 E. Temple St., Los Angeles, CA 90012, with Rimban William Briones of Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple officiating.
