Kathleen was born on October 18, 1933 in Phoenix, Arizona to Tokuji and Ichii Kurosumi. After internment at the Manzanar Relocation Camp during World War II, she came to Southern California and graduated from Los Angeles High School and the UCLA School of Nursing. As a registered nurse, she spent over fifty years in the medical industry. After retiring, she continued to volunteer at UCLA until her death.
In 1957, she married Shigeto Kawakami. They raised three children, Karen, Janet, and Marc. She and her husband enjoyed driving vacations with Lake Tahoe and the California coastline as perennial favorites.
She was known for her dedication to walking her dog. Her commitment to UCLA was demonstrated by her continuous volunteer work and support of Bruin sports. She treated everyone respectfully, helped anyone in need, and was loved by those fortunate enough to know her.
Kathleen is survived by her husband, three children, three sisters, one brother, two nieces, and two nephews.
