Beloved husband, father, and grandfather John N. Hawkins, 76, of Calabasas, California and Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on June 27, 2020 in Los Angeles, California. John was born in Sterling, Illinois but journeyed to Honolulu in 1964 to attend UH at Manoa. From then on, he divided his time between the mainland, where he was a distinguished member of the UCLA faculty, and Oahu, where he spent many years writing and conducting academic research in affiliation with the East-West Center and UH, Manoa. He loved swimming in the ocean, reading on his lanai, and tea time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith Hawkins; daughters Marisa and Larina; granddaughter Katherine; sister Susan Speer; also nieces and nephews. Private services to be held when circumstances allow.
