Jean Yoshie Yamaguchi, 100, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family
and friends on August 3, 2022.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Jean left for New York in 1949 to fulfill her dream of going to
school and working in the big city. It was there she met her husband, Jogi, who
preceded her in death in 2011. After marrying, they relocated to California where she
was active with the Orange County Buddhist Church, Project Kokoro, Meals On Wheels,
and as a volunteer at the Japanese American National Museum.
After retiring, Jean enjoyed traveling and kept a busy social schedule. She will be
remembered for her sharp mind, quick wit, and generous spirit.
Jean is survived by children, Eric (Yuri), Alvin (Vivian), Brian (Peggie) Yamaguchi and
Linda (Steve) Houston; grandchildren, Sean Yamaguchi, Christine O'Connor, Jeremy
(Anne) Yamaguchi, Naoko (Brian Kim) Fushimi, and Michael, David, and Garrett Dulong;
great-grandchildren, Carter and Carley O'Connor, Elizabeth Yamaguchi, and Ryota and
Shota Kim; brother, Albert Okada and sister-in-law, Kikuyo Yamaguchi, as well as
several nieces and nephews in California, Hawaii, and Oregon.
Funeral services were held September 4, 2022 at Orange County Buddhist Church.
