Jean Takako Kuniyoshi passed away at the age of 69, on September 1, 2010, after a third brief, but intense battle with cancer. She was born on January 9, 1941, to Chiye and Tomomori Yamamoto, in Los Angeles. Her family was interned in Santa Anita, and Rohwer, Arkansas. They lived in Cleveland, Ohio, before returning to California. Jean graduated from Gardena High School in 1957. She worked for the Los Angeles Dept. of Transportation, before marrying and moving to Ventura County.
When her children were young, Jean was active in Camp Fire, Indian Guides, and LPSS. She served on the board of the Ventura County JACL for many years. For the past 22 years, she worked at H&R Block in their Camarillo, Oak Park, and Oxnard offices.
Jean is survived by her husband, Chuck Kuniyoshi, children Amy, Cathleen "Cate", David, and Laura "Emi" Kuniyoshi, her sister Lynnie Tabata, brother Jerry Yamamoto, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 1:30 P.M. at Fukui Mortuary "Chapel in the Garden", 707 E. Temple St., L.A.
