JANICE TAKAKO KONDO, 89, of Orange County, California, passed away peacefully at home in October 2024, with her husband and family around her, Hawaiian music playing in the background.  Jan was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Kaneki and Helen Honda.  While employed at Aloha Airlines in Hawaii, she met her soon-to-be husband, Ronald Kondo, then married him in August 1956.  Among her varied jobs were co-owner of Kondo's Okazuya in Lahaina, Maui, and over 20 years with Liberty House of Hawaii, finally retiring as Human Resources Senior Manager at the Ala Moana office in Honolulu.  After retirement she and Ron moved to Woodland Hills, CA to be near their grandchildren.  She enjoyed over 30 years of retired life including many years as a member of the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center in Pacoima, CA, part of the Kupunas Ukelele Club and as a hula instructor.  In the spring of 2021, Jan gave her life to Jesus Christ and was baptized.  In the summer of 2021, she and Ron had no hesitation when they were asked if they wanted to move to Orange County not only to be near the grandchildren but the great-grandchildren as well!

Jan is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Ronald Y. Kondo Sr.;  daughter Diane (Paul) Matsumoto; son Ron (Ruby) Kondo Jr.;  and son-in-law Vern (Janine) Chun.  She is also survived by five wonderful grandchildren: Jeff (Kat) Matsumoto, Katie (Kellen) Moore, Amy Matsumoto, Brandon Kondo, and Emily Kondo;  three adored great-grandchildren: Adam Matsumoto, Nora Matsumoto, and Miles Moore;  sister-in-law, Lynn (Glenn) Honda; three favorite nephews: Glenn Jr., Linton, and Reid and their families; and cousins in Hawaii and Japan.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center, 12953 Branford St, Pacoima, CA 91331 on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 11:00 am.  Casual or Hawaiian attire and no flowers are requested.
