Funeral services for the late James Etsu Hirata , US Army Veteran , 75-year-old Kapaa, Kauai-born Nisei, resident of Garden Grove who passed away on June 2, at St. Joseph Hospital, will be held on Thursday, June 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Orange County Buddhist Church, 909 S. Dale Ave., Anaheim, CA.
He is survived by his wife Janet Yoshiko Hirata; sons Jared (Jan) and Jeffrey (Michele) of Virginia; daughter Jodel (Steven) Tagami of New York; grandchildren, Gennifer and Tyler Hirata of Virginia, Jonah and Jenner Hirata, and Reid Tagami of New York; brothers Kaoru (Harumi) of Wisconsin, Makoto (Miyoko) of Oregon, and Yutaka (Jeanette); mother-in-law Helen Okamoto; brother-in-law Roy Okamoto of Washington; sisters-in-law Mitsue and Toshiye Hirata, both of Hawaii; also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by brothers Yoneo and Satoshi Hirata; sisters Hatsue (Shoichi) Onuma and Ichiyo (Kenichi) Kunichika. The family kindly requests casual aloha attire and that flowers be omitted.
