Jack Yoshinobu Hirai, 88, passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side on November 1, 2013. He was born in Oxnard to Yasuzo and Sachiko Hirai on July 17, 1925.
Although Jack was an internee of Gila River relocation camp during WWII, he was able to serve his country as a member of the US Army during the Korean War. He eventually returned to Oxnard and opened his own trucking business, J.Y.Hirai & Son, Inc. which continues today.
Jack was a member of the Oxnard Buddhist Temple. Passionate about family and always willing to lend a helping hand, he was affectionately called "Uncle Jack" by those whose lives he touched.
Jack leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Michiko, children Arleen Ayers, Dianne Hirai (Clayton Chun), Bruce Hirai (JoAnn) and Brigette Hirai (Tony Avalos). His grandchildren include Vanessa Pina, Nicholas, Hillary, Jeffrey and Marshall Chun, Kristin and Justin Hirai, Anthony Hirai and great-grandson Isaac Pina. He is also survived by sisters Kikue Horikawa and Tsuya Nakamura as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Fri. Nov. 15, from 10:30 a.m. at Oxnard Buddhist Temple, 250 South "H" Street, Oxnard, CA.
