IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Isabel Joan
Mahoney
May 15, 1933 – June 15, 2023
In loving memory of Isabel Joan Mahoney, who passed away on June 15, 2023, one month after her 90th birthday. For 52 years she was the beloved wife of John Dennis "Jack" Mahoney, who passed away in 2018. She was later the loving companion of William "Bill" Buchman, the second love of her life, who passed away earlier this year.
Isabel was born in Hong Kong, where she lived until the age of seven. Her family then relocated to Sydney, Australia. She remained Down Under until the late 1950s, when she followed Jack to the United States.
Isabel had a long and successful career at USC, in both the History Department and Library. She enjoyed reading the L.A. Times, completing daily crossword puzzles, and reading mystery novels. Her greatest joy, however, was caring for her beloved cats. She had a place in her heart for every single feline who was lucky enough to live under her roof.
Isabel radiated warmth and compassion, making everyone around her feel incredibly loved and cherished. She is survived by a small but phenomenal circle of family and friends, including her brother-in-law, Peter (Theresa) Mahoney; nieces Erin and Brenna Mahoney; nieces Melitta and Jonelle Perry; and dear friends Xiaoxia Wu, Sandra McGregor, Kim Rea, Kathy Tagawa, Stacy Schrier, and Diane Moore. She is also survived by two of her favorite cats, Frankie and David.
While we mourn the loss of such an amazing, kind woman, her unwavering love will continue to inspire and live on in all of us forever.
