Obituary

Hisao Hamanaka, Hawaii-born and beloved Husband, Dad and Grandpa passed away peacefully on 4/25/19.  He will be fondly remembered for his dedication to both his family and his community.

Hisa served as President of the LA Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple from 1989 to 1990, and the 20 th Anniversary Centennial Project of refurbishing the onaijin was completed during his tenure. He was also one of the founders and was the first President of the Nishi Hui Aikanes service organization from 1984-1987. He later managed the construction of the Betsuin Nokotsudo and led the temple maintenance committee. He also served as president of the San Gabriel Valley Nikkei Senior Group from 2012-2014 before moving to San Diego to be closer to family.

He is survived by his wife Akiko, daughter Arlene (Bradlee) Chang, grandsons Alex, Tyler and Grant Chang, sister Yukie (Albert) Yamamoto, and many relatives.  He is predeceased by siblings Richard, Ellen, Masao, Matsuji and Tomeo Hamanaka.
