Hisako Nakahira, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, at Nikkei Senior Gardens in Arleta, California, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. She was 89 years old.

Born on September 7, 1936, in Tokyo, Japan, Hisako embarked on a new chapter of her life when she moved to California in 1961. She built a distinguished career at the Bank of Tokyo, where she served as an Operations Officer for fifteen years. She later worked at Sun Shipping for an additional fifteen years, demonstrating the same dedication and quiet determination that defined her character throughout her life.

In 1963, Hisako welcomed her daughter, Yoko, who became the center of her world. Known by those who loved her as kind, generous, loving, polite, and gracefully shy, Hisako touched the lives of everyone she met with her gentle spirit and warm heart.

Following her retirement, Hisako devoted her time to volunteering at the Japanese American Chamber of Commerce, giving back to the community she cherished. She found great joy in golfing, traveling, quilting, crocheting, cheering on the Dodgers, and watching sumo wrestling. Above all, she treasured time spent with her grandchildren, Annie and Eli, and her great-grandchild, Eleanor.

Hisako is survived by her daughter, Yoko Given; her son-in-law, Andy Given; her grandchildren, Annie and Eli; and her great-grandchild, Eleanor.

Hisako lived her life with a servant's heart, reflecting the Christian faith she held dear. May she now rest in the eternal peace and grace of God's loving embrace.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, July 30, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with Rev. Rob Yonemoto officiating.
