Hirouki Hiro Umemoto passed away on December 9, 2017, at the age of 97. Survived by his brothers Herb and Tom; niece, Cindy; nephews, Ron and Glenn; grandnieces Nicole and Melissa; great-grandniece, Jade. A private family service was held at Green Hills Memorial Park officiated by Rev. Ryuzen Hayashi of Koyasan Buddhist Temple.

"Hiro" will be remembered as the big-brother that was always willing to take care of the family. Although he never had children of his own, his eyes always lit up when he was around his grandnieces, and great-grandniece. He could never turn away an animal in need, be it a bird, cat or dog. He had a long-time passion for the outdoors, being an avid fisherman for much of his life.
