Obituary

Hiroko Nakazono, 92-year-old, Kanagawa, Japan born, resident of Gardena, who passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026.

She is survived by her loving family; sons, Gordon Yoichi and Andrew Koji Nakazono; brother, Masaru (Michiko) Takagi and sister, Haruyo Okui both of Japan; she is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives here and in Japan.

As a long resident of the Japanese Community in Gardena for over 65 years, Hiroko had left a lasting & memorable legacy in the Japanese Community in the South Bay.

One of Hiroko’s enjoyments & passions was to travel to different countries with her very good friends. Hiroko was fortunate to travel to Europe a few times as well as China & Taiwan.

In fact Hiroko made 3 memorable trips to Mainland China.

She also made many trips back to her homeland of Japan visiting family & the many friends and acquaintances that she had.

A Big fan of Baseball especially the Koushien High School Yakyu Tournament in Japan and a huge fan of Sumo, Hiroko enjoyed watching these events on TV as well as attending Live Sumo events when in Japan.

An avid Dog Lover, Hiroko never went more then 6 months without having a doggie as a family member at her home.
