Hatsue "Jane" Tagawa passed away on October 7, 2025. A longtime resident of Monterey Park, California Hatsue passed away at the age of 97 years old. Hatsue was born on August 21,1928 in Hilo, Hawaii to parents Toshiyuki and Matsue (Egawa) Tanaka.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Satoru Tagawa. Hatsue and George were married on February 14, 1954, and celebrated more than 66 years together before his passing in January 2021. The key to a long marriage is marrying on Valentines Day according to Aunty.

Hatsue enjoyed many years of traveling across the globe with her husband. Together they visited many states, such as Wyoming, South Dakota, Nevada, Hawaii, New York, Illinois, Louisiana, Virginia, New Mexico, and Alaska. She also had the chance to travel across Europe and Japan. They loved going to the different states tasting all the delicious foods and as a hobby collected miniature teaspoons from all their adventures. One of their many pastimes was visiting Indian casinos for a little slot time, watching Dodger baseball games on TV, watching Japanese Sumo Wrestling, singing, and listening to their favorite Japanese songs Karaoke styles. Aunty Hatsue was able to attend two Japanese Heritage nights at Dodger Stadium in 2024 and 2025. She would be ecstatic to hear the great news that the Dodgers won the World Series again this year. Aunty Hatsue will be dearly missed by all her friends and family.

Private family funeral services were held at Green Hills Memorial Park with Rev. John Iwohara of Gardena Buddhist Church officiating.
