Gene Edward Pinkerton, 84, of Los Angeles, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2018, at New Vista Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sunland, CA. He was born Feb 11, 1934, in Warren, IN, son of the late Albert and Louise (Thompson) Pinkerton.
Gene graduated from Jefferson High School in 1952 and for a brief time worked at Dana Corporation in Marion, IN. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1956 and proudly served as an airplane mechanic for 20 years. In 1958, in Tokyo, he married Kazuko Nomura, his wife of nearly 60 years. After his military retirement in 1976, Gene settled in California and worked for many years at Pep Boys auto services in Hollywood.
Gene is survived by his wife, Kazuko; one daughter, Patti (John) Bryan of Iron River, MI, and one son, Richard (Charisse) Pinkerton of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren: Laura (Kevin) Heuninck, Emily Bieghler, Emily (Mariani) Torrentez, and Joshua Pinkerton; and one great-grandchild, Avalon Torrentez. Survivors also include brothers, James (Mona) Pinkerton of Warren, IN, and Ronald Pinkerton of Florida; sister, Connie (Larry) Bowers of Huntington, IN, and brother-in-law, Jerry Williams of Warren, IN. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Williams.
A private memorial service with military honors will be held at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA. The family has entrusted Fukui Mortuary of Los Angeles with the arrangements.
