FRED HISAO YOSHIMARU
Born April 13, 1933 in Kagoshima, Japan and passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2008. A graduate of Waseda University, Fred left government work to come to the United States in 1957. After serving in the U.S. Army and being stationed in Korea, he and his wife settled in Los Angeles in 1962, where he remained an active member of the Nikkei community until his death. The beloved husband of Ryuko Yoshimaru, honored father of David Hisaya and his wife Gennifer, and cherished grandfather of Justin Lewis and Luc Wyatt Yoshimaru, Fred modeled honesty, integrity, determination, and an impeccable work ethic. He is also survived by siblings, nieces, nephews and other relatives here and in Japan. A devoted teacher of Shigin (an ancient form of Japanese poetry which is chanted), an expert gardener, and an avid fisherman, Fred touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2008, 3:00 P.M. at Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, 815 E. First St., Los Angeles, CA.
