Obituary

Frank Watanabe, 96 year-old Nisei American and member of the 522 nd Artillery Unit of the 442 nd Regimental Combat Team, passed away peacefully in his sleep.

Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 while he and his family were held at the Rohwer Relocation Center in Arkansas. He participated in the campaigns for Rome, Arno, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was present when the 522 nd liberated the sub-camps of Dachau.

Frank was an active member of VFW Post 9902 for over 40 years. He served in multiple capacities including Post Commander.

Frank was predeceased by his beloved wife Jane and by siblings Ken, Alice, Sho and Lily. He is survived by his daughter Carole (Rich) Lee; granddaughters Kathryn and Jennifer; brothers Bob and Ron (Aletha) Watanabe, sisters Helen (Haj) Miyagishima, Betty Rose, and Rose Johnson; and many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.

Services were held in his memory on June 22, 2017 at Fukui Mortuary.
