April 1, 1930 – April 2, 2009
Gene Moritani passed away peacefully at California Hospital on April 2nd, shortly after a fall at the Staples Center while attending a Clipper game with his son, Evan. Gene was a big Clippers fan and was very happy to be celebrating his birthday at one of their home games. Gene was born in Oakland California on April Fool's Day 1930. He was pre-deceased by his parents Tetsujino Moritani and Aiko Kadawaki. He was also pre-deceased by his older brother Dick Moritani. As a young teenager during World War II, He was interred along with his adopted family, Frank and Fumiko Nagata at Amache Japanese Internment Camp in Colorado. He graduated from Cal. State L.A. with a degree in Social Work. Gene worked for L.A. County DPSS for over 25 years, retiring as Deputy Director. He is survived by his wife, Mary, son, Evan Moritani, and grandchildren Tristan, Kiran, and Dominic. He is also survived by five stepchildren, six step-grandchildren and one step-great granddaughter, sisters, Chieko Tada (Tets), and Kay Komai and many nieces and nephews. Gene will be missed by all who knew him for his eccentric sense of humor and his devotion to his family. Funeral Service to be held at Fukui Mortuary, 707 E. Temple Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012, 213-626-0441(memorial page at: www.fukuimortuary.com) on Saturday, April 11th, at 11 o'clock followed by burial at Rose Hills Memorial Park. Casual dress please.
